Is Your Home Ready January 2027?

By 1st January 2027, every home in Queensland must be equipped with compliant, interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all required locations.

You likely need an upgrade right now if your current alarms are:

  • Expired: More than 10 years old.

  • Isolated: Not interconnected to wake the whole house if one goes off.

  • Outdated: Ionisation models instead of modern photoelectric technology.

  • Selling your home soon? Compliance is legally required before settlement, so you cannot wait until 2027 if you plan to sell earlier.

Beat the 2027 Rush As the deadline inches closer, tradespeople will be booked out weeks in advance. Beat the spike in demand, protect your family today, and secure peace of mind.

Queensland Law Requirements

The rollout of Queensland’s smoke alarm legislation is happening in phases:

  • The First Wave: Since 1 January 2022, all properties being sold or leased have been required to comply.

  • The Final Deadline: By 1 January 2027, every single home in Queensland must meet these standards.

💡 Why it matters: These interconnected systems provide a much faster warning, giving your family precious extra time to escape safely in an emergency.

Queensland legislation states smoke alarms must:

  • Be photoelectric.

  • Be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so all activate and go off together.

  • Comply with the Standard AS3786-2014

  • Not contain an ionisation sensor.

  • Be hardwired installed by a licensed electrician (e.g. 240v) to the mains power supply with a secondary power source (eg. non-removable 10-year battery, or a user-replaceable 9V battery)
