New legislation requires every home in Queensland to be equipped with compliant, interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all required locations (including bedrooms).

You need an upgrade right now if your current alarms are either:

  • Bedrooms: Do not currently have smoke alarms

  • Expired: More than 10 years old.

  • Isolated: Not interconnected to wake the whole house if one goes off.

  • Outdated: Ionisation models instead of modern photoelectric technology.

  • Selling your home soon? Compliance is legally required before settlement.

Queensland legislation states smoke alarms must:

  • Be photoelectric.

  • Be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so all activate and go off together.

  • Comply with the Standard AS3786-2014

  • Not contain an ionisation sensor.

  • Be hardwired installed by a licensed electrician (e.g. 240v) to the mains power supply with a secondary power source (eg. non-removable 10-year battery, or a user-replaceable 9V battery)
